Jetpacks and hoverboards may not exist (yet), but California-based company Acton has just developed a device that could revolutionize the way individuals travel—RocketSkates.

These smart pieces of footwear are designed to be attached to one's shoes.

Once strapped in, users are able to glide through the streets without ever having to manually kick forward.

The electronic motors in the smart skates do the work for you.

You can even take a break from skating to climb a flight of stairs.

It's a hands- and remote-control-free device that lets the user take charge of movement through foot gestures, similar to a Segway.

And, to avoid any cartoonish accident where you'd wind up in an involuntary split, the skates are designed to communicate with one another and maintain the same speed and behavior at all times.

RocketSkates ran an extremely successful Kickstarter campaign over the summer, reaching its $50k goal within 24 hours and ultimately raising over 11 times that amount. Now, there are multiple videos on the product's YouTube channel of testers using the skates and you can even sign up for a test drive yourself, directly through Acton'swebsite.
